Our award-winning anchor begins her 26th season with Entertainment Tonight!
This year, Mary Hart begins her 26th season as anchor of ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT the #1 syndicated entertainment newsmagazine show in the world. Hart joined ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT as a correspondent on June 24, 1982, and within weeks was named co-anchor of the show.
In 2007, Hart interviewed noted celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor. The exclusive interview with Taylor took place in Taylor's home where she showcased her private jewelry collection for Hart. In May of 2007, Hart sat down with Olivia Newton John and her daughter Chloe, who opened up for the first time about her battle with anorexia.
On behalf of ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, Hart accepted the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame Award in October of 2006.
In 2006, Hart was the single American journalist aboard "The DaVinci Code" train as the cast traveled from London to the film's premiere at The Cannes Film Festival. She was the only reporter to get a one-on-one interview with star Tom Hanks. That same year, Hart was also the only journalist to visit the set of the newest James Bond installment, "Casino Royale," in Prague, Czech Republic. In addition, Hart was the solitary media outlet invited to visit with the entire cast of "All the King's Men" on set in New Orleans, which included a rare interview with Academy Award Winner Sean Penn.
In 2002, the American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT) honored Hart with the Gracie Allen Award, which recognizes those responsible for "exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of broadcasting and electronic media." Hart was also presented with the Samaritan Award by the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) for her work on behalf of several children's charities.
In 2000, Hart was featured on A&E network's "Biography" series, which profiled her journey from growing up in South Dakota to becoming one of the most recognized personalities in the world of entertainment broadcast journalism.
In 1999, Hart was inducted into Broadcasting & Cable's "Hall of Fame," along with such luminaries as Tom Brokaw and the late Brandon Tartikoff. The year before, she was awarded AWRT's 1998 Silver Satellite Award for outstanding accomplishments in electronic communications. In 1990, Hart was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A South Dakota native, Hart attended Augustana College, where she majored in English. Soon after graduation, she became a high school English teacher in Sioux Falls while simultaneously hosting a local cable show. Later, upon moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Hart added a television and radio show to her on-air credits.
In 1976, Hart moved to Oklahoma City, where she spent three years co-hosting "Dannysday," a noontime talk show on the NBC affiliate. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 1981, Hart appeared in national commercials and hosted the popular "PM Magazine." She impressed the NBC brass so much that they hired her to co-host the national daytime talk show, "The Regis Philbin Show." Soon after that series ended in 1982, Paramount Domestic Television (now CBS Television Distribution) tapped Hart for ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT where she continues to define entertainment journalism to this day.
In her personal life, Hart has been involved with several philanthropies for children. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for Children's Hospital Los Angeles and is Leadership Chair of the New Hospital Campaign. She is also an ambassador for Childhelp USA, an organization that combats child abuse across America; has served on the board of directors for the National Childhood Cancer Foundation for many years; and continues her affiliation with the Children's Miracle Network for which she has served as co-host of their telethon for 15 years. In 2001, she was honored with the first-ever Children's Miracle Achievement Award for her "long-standing commitment to children and contributing in many ways to bettering the lives of children everywhere." Hart also helps raise awareness with the American Heart Association, and she was the mistress of ceremonies for the Heart Fund's Humanitarian of the Year Gala in 2004.
