Weekend Anchor and Primary Substitute Anchor.
This year, Jann Carl begins her 14th season on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, the #1 syndicated entertainment newsmagazine in the world. In 2001, she was named primary substitute anchor in addition to her duties as weekend anchor and correspondent.
In 2008, Carl scored several big interviews, including being the only journalist to visit the set of the top secret new James Bond film, "Quantum of Solace," in Panama City, Panama. Carl was the first entertainment journalist invited on board presidential hopeful Barack Obama's private jet and was the first to interview Christina Aguilera after the birth of her first child, Max. Carl also traveled to Greece to interview Meryl Streep for her new film, "Mamma Mia."
Previously, Carl has interviewed some of Hollywood's brightest stars including Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Carl also interviewed Paris Hilton following her release from jail in 2007, Katie Holmes on the set of her first movie since she married Tom Cruise and gave birth to baby Suri, and was one of the last to interview Tammy Faye Messner before her death from cancer.
In 2006, Carl was granted an exclusive interview with the "Long Island Lolita," Amy Fisher, where she learned the untold truth about the fateful day 15 years ago when Fisher attempted to murder Mary Jo Buttafuoco. That same year, Carl traveled to Rome to cover the highly anticipated wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
In 2005, Carl flew to Seattle for an exclusive sit-down interview with former schoolteacher Mary Kay LeTourneau and the student she had an affair with, Vili Fualaau, which included going behind-the-scenes of their controversial wedding.
In addition to interviewing celebrities for ET, Carl has appeared as a guest judge on UPN's "America's Next Top Model" and has co-hosted several award shows and television specials, including CBS's Fourth of July special "Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular" in 2005 and ABC's "Oscar Countdown" in both 2005 and 2004. She also co-hosted the 2003 Emmy Awards pre-show on Fox as well as covered the annual Tournament of Roses Parade, seen by millions of people worldwide, from 2003-2005.
Carl began her career at age 23, when she became one of the youngest journalists to launch a broadcast news career in Chicago. Her reporting and morning anchor job at ABC affiliate WLS-TV led to an offer in Los Angeles as a news reporter. Soon after she was hired to co-host KABC's magazine show "Eye on L.A." Three years later, she was named anchor of KTLA's "News at Ten," the #1 primetime news broadcast in Los Angeles, where she would win three Los Angeles Emmy Awards during her eight-year tenure.
Carl's high profile within the Hollywood community has led to appearances (as herself) in such films as "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star" (2003), "Josie and the Pussycats" (2001) and "Bulworth" with Warren Beatty and Halle Berry (1998). For five years, she also conducted the backstage interviews for the national broadcasts of "The Blockbuster Awards."
In 1996, Jerry Lewis tapped Carl to co-host the national Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Labor Day Telethon. She has been involved with the organization for the past 19 years and currently serves as a national board member. In previous years, she has been a national vice president and was honored with the 1998 Paragon Award for her exceptional service. For the past five years, she has also served as co-host of ABC's Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament, which benefits the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
