Today the American Film Institute (AFI) released their official honorees for Most Outstanding Motion Pictures and Television Programs of the year. Keep reading to find out which projects made the list.
The institute's top 10 movies in alphabetical order were: Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, The Dark Knight Rises, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Moonrise Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty.
Their top 10 TV programs included: American Horror Story, Breaking Bad, Game Change, Game of Thrones, Girls, Homeland, Louie, Mad Men, Modern Family and The Walking Dead.
Now with its fifth appearance in the AFI almanac, AMC's Mad Men has become the most recognized AFI Awards TV honoree, breaking the 6-way tie between Breaking Bad, Everybody Loves Raymond, Modern Family, The Sopranos and The Wire -- each having four honors.
"AFI Awards celebrates America's storytellers as collaborators," said Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO. "We are honored to bring together artists as a community, without competition, to acknowledge the gifts they have given the world in 2012."
AFI will honor each these projects equally as an ensemble during a luncheon on Friday, January 11, 2013 in Los Angeles.
