Helen Mirren has Jamie Foxx to thank for her Oscar win for 2006's The Queen?

That's what Helen told ET in 2007 at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party at Morton's in West Hollywood, following her first and to-date only Oscar victory on four nominations.

"The maestro here [Jamie Foxx] taught me everything I know about great performance. I watched the best performance that I’ve ever seen in my husband’s film. Taught me how to impersonate with spirit and with real psychology."

The film she's talking about is 2004’s Ray, and was directed by Taylor Hackford, Mirren's husband of fifteen years. Apparently Foxx's Oscar-winning portrayal of the late blues icon Ray Charles is what gave her inspiration for her own performance as Queen Elizabeth II.

"I watched him do the most amazing job. He was my inspiration."

You certainly can’t argue with the results!

Both of the former winners are no doubt Oscar hopefuls again this year.

Mirren has already earned a Golden Globe nod for her role in Hitchcock, and while Foxx wasn’t personally nominated for his leading role in the critically-acclaimed Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino's latest film did pick up five Golden Globe nominations.

Our fingers are crossed that by the time the Oscar nominations roll around, Foxx will pick up that nod that leads to his second statuette.

We'll certainly find out on Tuesday, January 15, when the 2013 Academy Award nominees are announced.
