This year's host of the Oscars created the FOX comedy hit Family Guy -- for which he also voices the characters Peter and Stewie -- and his directorial debut of the comedy Ted became a box office hit last year. Here are five things you probably don't know about writer/producer/director Seth MacFarlane. 

1. As a teenager, he created a comic strip called Walter Crouton for his local newspaper, the Kent Good Times Dispatch in Connecticut.

2. Was once voted the Smartest Man on TV by Entertainment Weekly.

3. Has said he considers the 1979 Steve Martin comedy The Jerk the funniest movie ever mad.

4. Was just 24 years old when FOX proposed that he create a 15-minute short, which eventually turned into the hit series Family Guy.

5. Was supposed to board the first plane that crashed into the Twin Towers on September 11th, 2001, but he missed the flight due to a travel agent providing the wrong departure tim.
