While CBS maintained order with the now-infamous memo requesting that 'buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered' during the Grammy Awards, the stars' red carpet wardrobe was anything but tame.

"That was weird," said Miranda Lambert, who was in full compliance wearing a floor-length Roberto Cavalli gown. "I can't get over the puffy skin part. I'm like, 'What is puffy skin?' ... I don't want to see anyone's puffy skin."

Grammy host LL Cool J joked that he was concealing a huge violation, saying, "I actually have cutouts under here. I just didn't open my jacket."

Jennifer Lopez tested the limits, wearing a near waist-high slit, but she assured ET's Nancy O'Dell and Rocsi Diaz that she was "well within the confines of the memo."

"I thought this was quite conservative actually," J.Lo said.

O'Dell was the first to inform Nicole Kidman of the dress code after she had already stepped onto the red carpet. Click the video for Kidman's response.
