The 19th Annual Critics' Choice Awards brought the stars out to Santa Monica, California on Thursday, for a fun night of celebration and recognition. However, one thing that was on everyone's mind were the Academy Award nominations, which had just been announced earlier that morning.
One of the many stars who walked the red carpet, who was nominated for both an Oscar and a Critics' Choice Award this year, was the sensational star of The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio.
DiCaprio, 39, recently won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his performance in the drug-fueled, greed-filled bio pic, and his nomination for on Oscar is his fourth. The celebrated actor opened up to ET, on the red carpet of the Critics' Choice Awards, about what makes The Wolf of Wall Street so special to him.
"This was a truly collaborative effort. All of us actors went in there and tried to push boundaries, every single day, from [director Martin Scorsese's] encouragement," DiCaprio said. "This has been a seven-year process to put this film up on screen, so it's a huge honor that we got recognized."
The Wolf of Wall Street has faced some controversy and criticism, in part due to its number of raunchy sex scenes, a record-setting amount of swearing, and what some have claimed is the glamorization of greed, immorality and theft. It's a claim that DiCaprio, Scorsese and the cast have staunchly denied since before the film even opened.
"I think it's a bold film that took a lot of chances," DiCaprio said. "And we're not going to see many films that are this insane and debaucherous being put up on screen in the near future. So I'm very proud of it. It's a great reflection of this underworld. An underworld that, ever since the crash of 2008, I really wanted to depict. So I'm very honored."
And with several awards from a number of different organizations, the film seems to resonate with many critics who appreciate its boldness and craft.
