It's official! Miley Cyrus will be at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, but are her twerking and tonguing days behind her?

The former Hannah Montana star shocked everyone this past year when she hit the VMA stage to sing "We Can't Stop," which then led to her grinding up on Robin Thicke (who was very married to Paula Patton at the time) during his "Blurred Lines" performance.

Miley's vulgar VMA stage show seemed to be her coming-out party for her new image. The remainder of 2013 included the 21-year-old riding a wrecking ball nude, posting a slew of nearly NSFW Instagram shots and donning numerous scantily-clad styles while on her Bangerz tour.

"What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it. They're over thinking it,” Miley told MTV News in Sept. 2013 regarding the media frenzy surrounding her performance. "You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it ’cause that's just me."

"How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?" she noted. "Madonna's done it. Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for; you're wanting to make history."

The VMAs air Sunday, August 24, at 9/8c on MTV. Here's what to expect on the big night:
