The award show pulled in 15.6 million viewers, its second highest viewership in eight years. This number was only slightly down from last year's 17.6 million, which is impressive considering the 2013 event took place on a Sunday in September and had an NFL lead-in on CBS.

Many viewers tuned-in for Billy Crystal's heartfelt tribute to Robin Williams.

Crystal remembered the comedy legend, saying, "He made us laugh, hard, every time you saw him," continuing, "His brilliance was outstanding, his relentless energy was thrilling."

The In Memoriam segment also featured Sara Bareilles delivering a moving rendition of Smile to pay tribute to the many notables who passed away in the past year, including Maya Angelou, Casey Kasem, Lauren Bacall, James Garner, Peter O'Toole and Mickey Rooney.
