Emmy Flashback: Jeremy Piven '07

By ROBERT PACE

September 06, 2012

Jeremy Piven's coarse yet endearing character of agent "Ari Gold" on Entourage seemed almost made for him, and critics admired his suitability for the character. At the 2007 Emmys, Piven was nominated for another Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor after winning the same award in 2006.

"For a guy from Chicago, the dream for me was getting on stage and being a working actor on stage in Chicago, not being celebrated like this," Piven says as he points to his second straight Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award. "I'm having a worldly experience."

Although it was the second time that Piven had won the award, he was overly gracious to receive it, and stated what an honor it was accept the award. When asked about receiving the award over a year after the awarded season of Entourage, Piven joked that he would receive any reward regardless of the timeframe.

"I would receive something for something that I did in junior high school, and quite honestly, take a victory lap and do a press conference," Piven quips. "Do you know understand what actors are?"

When Piven, who is also known for roles in Old School and Serendipity in addition to a slew of television roles, is asked about what he'll do with the newly minted Emmy, he reveals his humble plans after once seeing Carol Burnett's many Emmys.

"I went to her house and I saw all these Emmys and it was literally like somehow seeing pictures of the moon," he recounts. "There's nothing premeditated about any of this. I'm going to put it right next to the other one and keep working as hard as I can. That's all we can do."

His philosophy proved fruitful, as he won the same award the following year.
