'30 Rock' Leads Emmy Noms
Chandra Wilson ("Grey's Anatomy") and Jim Parsons ("Big Bang Theory") had the honor of introducing this year's Emmy Award nominations from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood. Read on to see if your favorites received a nod!
There were a few surprises, as the animated "Family Guy" was nominated for Best Comedy Series. Other noms include "Entourage," "Flight of the Conchords," "How I Met Your Mother," "The Office," "30 Rock" and "Weeds." Another surprise was in the Outstanding Series, Drama category. HBO's "Big Love" garnered its first nomination. Others in the category include "Breaking Bad," "Damages," "Dexter," "House," "Lost,"
and "Mad Men."
In the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, it is the usual suspects: "The Amazing Race," "American Idol," "Dancing with the Stars," "Project Runway" and "Top Chef."
This year introduces a new show category, Best Variety Program. Nominees include "The Colbert Report, "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "Real Time" with Bill Maher.
This year's nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy are Jemaine Clement ("The Flight of the Conchords"), Tony Shalhoub ("Monk"), Steve Carell ("The Office"), Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock"), Charlie Sheen ("Two and a Half Men"), and presenter Jim Parsons seemed genuinely surprised to pick up a nom for his work this past year.
In the Best Actress in a Comedy category, fan favorites Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("The New Adventures of Old Christine"), Christina Applegate ("Samantha Who?"), Sarah Silverman "(The Sarah Silverman Program"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), Toni Collette ("The United States of Tara"), and Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds") got the nod.
Meanwhile, the drama competition will be just as stiff. Male Drama nods go to Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"), Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"), Hugh Laurie ("House"), Jon Hamm ("Mad Men"), Gabriel Byrne ("In Treatment") and Simon Baker ("The Mentalist"); while the Female Drama nominees are Sally Field ("Brothers & Sisters"), Glenn Close ("Damages"), Holly Hunter ("Saving Grace"), Kyra Sedgwick ("The Closer"), Mariska Hargitay ("Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"), and Elisabeth Moss ("Mad Men").
Supporting Actor in a Drama series nominees include: William Shatner, ("Boston Legal"), Christian Clemenson, ("Boston Legal"), Aaron Paul, ("Breaking Bad"), William Hurt, ("Damages"), Michael Emerson, ("Lost"), John Slattery, ("Mad Men").
Supporting Actress in a Drama Series noms goes to: Rose Byrne ("Damages"), Sandra Oh ("Grey's Anatomy"), Chandra Wilson, ("Grey's Anatomy"), Dianne Wiest ("In Treatment"), Hope Davis ("In Treatment") and Cherry Jones ("24").
Supporting Actor, Comedy Series nominees include: Kevin Dillon, ("Entourage"), Neil Patrick Harris, ("How I Met Your Mother"), Rainn Wilson ("The Office"), Tracy Morgan ("30 Rock"), Jack McBrayer ("30 Rock") and Jon Cryer ("Two and a Half Men").
Supporting Actress in a comedy noms include: Kristin Chenoweth ("Pushing Daisies"), Amy Poehler ("Saturday Night Live"), Kristin Wiig ("Saturday Night Live"), Jane Krakowski ("30 Rock"), Vanessa Williams, ("Ugly Betty") and Elizabeth Perkins ("Weeds").
The "61st Annual Emmy Awards" air Sunday, September 20 on CBS.
