EXCLUSIVE: Milo Ventimiglia Explains Why He Always Color-Coordinates With Mandy Moore

'That's how you know you're a good television husband and wife,' the 'This is Us' actor joked at the Golden Globes.

Milo Ventimiglia
looks good in everything (and nothing, as he proved in the pilot episode of This Is Us) -- but only he could look that good in a suit that was custom-made for someone else.

"Luck happened," the 39-year-old actor told ET's Nancy O'Dell on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday. "It was a custom suit built by Ralph Lauren for someone -- not here -- literally, like, a civilian in life, and I happened upon it. I said, 'It's built for me.'"

The suit in question is a classic navy blue number, which Ventimiglia paired with a dapper bow tie. Elsewhere on the red carpet, his on-screen wife, Mandy Moore, stunned in a navy Naeem Khan gown featuring a plunging neckline and a sheer cape. The actress told ET's Kevin Frazier that she "always wanted to wear a cape," joking: "I feel like a quasi-superhero!"

"I was texting with Mandy on our way over. 'Hey, are you in line? Hey are you this...' But then a couple days ago, I said, 'Hey, what are you wearing?' Like, she and I always inadvertently match. We don't even plan it!" Ventimiglia revealed moments earlier.

"Funny enough, if I have stripes on, somehow she has stripes. If I'm in a color, she's in a color," he continued. After her arrival on the carpet, he joked: "That's when you know you're a good television husband and wife!"

Fellow This Is Us stars Chrissy Metz and Sterling K. Brown also seemed to get the color palette memo! The former opted for a royal purple long-sleeved gown with metallic detailing along the waist and cuffs, and the latter, a blue tux with black lapels.

While Brown made headlines for showing off his buff bod on Instagram while getting ready for Sunday's festivities, Ventimiglia posted a video from under the hood of his car.

"Ten years ago, when I was here, I had to water the lawn before I left for the Globes, and just as it happens, I was working on my car," he explained. "So, it kinda became a thing with my friends and I. You put the tux on, but you still gotta do normal life stuff."

This Is Us returns to NBC on Jan. 10 with a sure-to-be-heartbreaking new episode. See the first footage in the player below!
