Days after Rory Feek revealed that his wife, Joey, was feeling "really good," he shared the pair’s excitement over their recent GRAMMY nomination.
The bluegrass singer took to Facebook to recount the special moment he told his wife their song "If I Needed You" was up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
"...woke my bride up this morning with a baby in my arms and the news that our version of "If I Needed You" was nominated for a Grammy," he wrote. "As her excitement and tears flowed into mine. She said, 'how can that be?'"
"....the song received no radio airplay... no press... no critical acclaim... and the only music video we made for it was to celebrate the day our little Indiana was born," Rory added. "God is so good. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
The performance is up against some pretty tough competition, including "The Driver" by Charles Kelley, Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay, "Stay a Little Longer" by Brothers Osborne, "Girl Crush" from Little Big Town and "Lonely Tonight" from Blake Shelton featuring Ashley Monroe.
Joey, 40, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in May 2014. Despite multiple treatments and surgeries, her cancer returned. The country star was admitted into hospice care after ending treatment for colorectal cancer in late October. Since then, Joey has decided to return to the home she grew up.
Her husband has actively kept up a blog to give health updates on his wife as well as share stories of her optimism and strength during her final days.
On Friday, Rory, 49, shared how the holiday season has brought out “the best” in his family.
"My wife knows I love Christmas. There's a magic that's in the air that isn't there any other time of the year," he penned. "Christmas does what no amount of New Year’s resolutions or self-help books can do… it changes people. It brings out the very best in us, and in others."
He also shared about a special gift a local pizza restaurant gave to his 2-year-old daughter Indiana, who was born with down syndrome, for Christmas. To see the special present, watch the video below.
