The Theory of Everything
scored five Academy Award nominations
on Thursday morning, and the film’s leads, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, were both recognized in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories for their portrayals of Stephen and Jane Hawking, respectively.
ET caught up with Oscar nominees just after the big announcement – and they couldn't have been more elated.
“I was fast asleep,” Redmayne told ET’s Nischelle Turner, adding, “I woke up to this banging on the door!”
“It's amazing absolutely amazing,” he continued before noting that his cheeks were beginning to ache from all the smiling.
The 33-year-old, who tied the knot last month
, shared that his wife was elated by the news, joking, “I called her first thing and she had found out before I had!”
Redmayne also shared his excitement for his co-star on her nomination, revealing that the pair actually go way-back!
“Felicity and I old friends,” he explained. “We started in theater together in England… we challenged each other and she’s such a ferocious talent.”
Jones was equally thrilled by the news.
The 31-year-old-starlet excitedly told ET, “There was a lot of running around and screaming and hyper ventilating at the same time,“ calling the morning “of those moments you dream of.”
And speaking of dreams, the actress is already fantasizing about what to wear on Hollywood’s biggest night: “I'm just thinking I've got to try a ton of dresses, I want to find something that's enormous!”
