John Mayer: Jennifer Aniston Had My Back

Musician John Mayer told Ryan Seacrest he was "very nervous" for his Oscars date with girlfriend Jennifer Aniston, but when he arrived it was "effortless."

"You really have to be with someone that you know has your back in that situation and [Jennifer] did and it was really great," John told KIIS FM's On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

"As men, we're incredibly sensitive about the decisions we make with the women we're with," he said of his public appearance with Jennifer at the Oscars. "I basically stepped into the picture frame of Hollywood."

Jennifer presented the animation Oscars alongside Jack Black while cameras cut to her ex-husband Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the audience.

John said Oscar night was all about giving "moral support."  "You can go from Grammy winner to a water boy when you walk into the Kodak Theater on Oscar night. That's a whole different level," the seven-time Grammy winner told Ryan.

John is currently working on his next album.
