Penelope Cruz, Stanley Tucci & Maggie Gyllenhaal's Oscar Gratitude
Penelope Cruz, Stanley Tucci and Maggie Gyllenhaal have all been nominated for this year's Academy Awards, and they're all sharing their excitement with ET!
Stanley is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his turn as the twisted villain of 'The Lovely Bones,' and he says that he learned of his nomination through his publicist, who woke him up. "I said, 'Thank you, that's exciting,' and then I went back to sleep," he says with a laugh. "I was really happy. ... It's a dream of every actor to be nominated for an Academy Award" He adds that the first people he called were his parents to share the good news, and then he called his friend Oliver Platt.
Of good friend and co-star Meryl Streep's 16th nomination, he jokes, "Greedy. ... It wouldn't be an Academy Award show without Meryl being nominated."
Maggie's supporting role in 'Crazy Heart' opposite Best Actor nominee Jeff Bridges earned her a first-ever nomination. "I really wasn't expecting it. ... I'm more proud of my work that I've done in this movie than any work that I've done in my life so far. I was really surprised this morning."
Penelope, last year's Best Actress winner for 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' is up again this year for her supporting performance in 'Nine.' She did not find out until about an hour after nominations were announced and "had 19 missed calls and 120 emails and text messages," so she spent her day returning her messages. The actress is thankful for the support of her loved ones, saying, "It's beautiful to talk to all the people that love you and care about you and get excited for you with something like this."
