The CNN anchor took to Twitter to mourn on Thursday following the news that his sister, 58-year-old L'Tanya "Leisa" Lemon Grimes died on Wednesday after falling into a pond and drowning while she was fishing in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

"The Lemon/Grimes family would like to thank everyone for their condolences and prayers at this time. We appreciate privacy as we grieve the loss of our loved one," Lemon's family said in a statement to the Times-Picayune.

"Thanks everyone for your words of sympathy," the 51-year-old newscaster wrote on Twitter. "Please keep my family in your prayers. Leisa was my oldest sister & partner in crime growing up. Always had my back. #RIPbigSis."

Lemon also retweeted a video earlier in the day of kids talking about Black History Month while pretending to be a CNN panel, writing, "This lifted my spirits. I needed this today. Thank you @EuniqueJG!! #BlackHistoryMonth"
