Not even the rain could keep fashion fanatics away from the Lucky Magazine Shops event in New York City on Thursday. Hilary Duff hosted the event and gave ET the scoop on what's hot this fall.

"I am really excited that socks are back," said Hilary, revealing some of this season's hottest trends. "I'm a big thigh-high girl. I love thigh-high boots… I'm really excited to bundle up."

The actress' take on fall fashion seemed to run contrary to the black one-shoulder Diane von Furstenberg dress she wore to the event, but she told ET that she planned to do some shopping.

"This is like girl's paradise here," said Hilary. "It has great brands that every girl loves and everything is 70 percent off."

Hilary may be wise beyond her years when it comes to fashion sense, encouraging a retro style. "Chachkie jewelry that looks old or like it was your grandmother's I think is coming back and I love that," said the singer.

Though she admits to a love of shopping, Hilary doesn't make a habit of being wasteful, saying, "I don't really like to get rid of stuff. I do, like, a big closet cleaning probably twice a year, but I hang on to a lot of my good stuff."

Watch the video to discover the one item in Hilary's closet she can't do without and what Nate Berkus' style sense was like in high school.
