Hollywood’s most stylish stars can sometimes make poor stylistic choices so we’re looking at the do’s and don’ts of the latest red carpet trends.
Nicole Richie and Reese Witherspoon recently strutted down the red carpets wearing sheer lace, which can be very sultry and glamourous when styled correctly. Richie successfully pulled off a rocker chic look at the AOL Originals Fall Premiere event with a lace and rose print gown. This Blumarine design called for a touch of elegance and she delivered by pulling her hair back and keeping accessories to a minimum with a choker necklace. Reese Witherspoon's styling of a black Stella McCartney gown missed the mark at her premiere for Wild during the 58th BFI London Film Festival. There were a lot of contrasting elements in the design which may have worked if she had pushed the limits by adding a cuff bracelet, or by stepping out of her comfort zone and slicking her hair back.
Pieces embellished with beaded embroidery and sequins give classic shapes a daring edge. Emma Stone stunned on the New York Film Festival red carpet wearing an olive green embroidered top and black asymmetrical skirt. Her Jason Wu ensemble was accented with black Aquazzura pumps and Ana Khouri ear cuffs. This look was a success because it appeared effortlessly elegant. On the other hand, Eva Longoria’s beaded Emilo Pucci mini dress, which she wore as one of her seven outfit changes during the 2014 NCLR ALMA Awards, wasn’t the best fit for her. The dress draped loosely over her body and as a result it gave her an unflattering boxy shape. This dress could have accentuated her petite body better if it was tailored and had more structure.
Jennifer Lawrence and Shailene Woodley both went for menswear inspired pieces earlier in the week. Lawrence pulled off a sexy chic look at the premiere for Serena. She wore a black wool coat dress featuring a plunging neckline. It had clean lines and was tailored impeccably. Shailene Woodley wore a Temperley London navy vest and slim trousers ensemble to the White Bird In A Blizzard New York screening. The only problem with this look was she wore a thick black headband that was more distracting than anything, and it took away from the sleekness of the outfit.
