An American Horror Story star is set to inspire a whole lot of people at New York Fashion Week.

Actress Jamie Brewer is breaking down barriers.

Jamie, best known for her work on American Horror Story, is set to walk the runway during New York Fashion Week for designer Carrie Hammer, and will become the first woman with Down syndrome to grace the catwalk.

The 30-year-old actress is the latest participant in Hammer's "Role Models Not Runway Models" campaign Hammer started when she was first asked to show her line at Fashion Week last year. The designer wanted to represent the women who bought her clothing, and featured real-life inspiring women such as her friend, Danielle Sheypuk, a doctor and a sex therapist who uses a wheelchair.

Hammer says hundreds of women and girls contacted her to thank her.

Jamie is set to walk the runway today, and tweeted this picture of her getting her hair done for her fans.

"Young girls and even young women … [see me] and say, 'Hey, if she can do it so can I,'" Jamie, who's also an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, tells TODAY about the exciting new gig. "It's a true inspiration being a role model for any young women to [encourage them] in being who they are and showing who they are."

As for what she'll be wearing, Hammer says she chose a dress specifically with Jamie in mind. Jamie's played such fan favorite roles as Addie in American Horror Story: Murder House, Nan in Coven, and Marjorie in Freak Show.

"American Horror Story is dark, scary, bewitching so we had to go with black and Jamie has a beautiful body with a teeny waist and curves and we went with an A-line," she says.

And clearly, Jamie couldn't be happier with the end result.

"It's amazing, it's really neat," she says. "Many women have many sides to their personality, this dress fits ... mine. I am honored to be in it."
