Occasionally the universe comes up with some pretty epic coincidences -- like when a movie star and an British royal wear the exact same dress on the exact same night at totally different events thousands of miles apart.

On Thursday, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, slipped into a shimmering Tory Burch dress -- valued at over $1,500 -- for a formal dinner with her husband, Prince William, and the King and Queen of Bhutan, during her week-long royal tour of India and Bhutan.

Meanwhile, 7,600 miles away in New York City, Drew Barrymore was rocking the exact same dress while hugging an adorable puppy on the red carpet outside the Annual ASPCA Bergh Ball at the Plaza Hotel, where she was the guest of honor.

However, the impressive show of linear thinking didn't extend to their shoes or accessories. While Barrymore paired the long gown with grey heels, Middleton opted for a pair of strappy black heels, and topped off the ensemble with a vibrant orange shawl

While walking the red carpet at the ASPCA fundraiser, Barrymore stopped to talk with ET about how her pet rescue dogs have helped her enjoy life during this difficult period following her split from her husband, Will Kopelman.

"Life is better with dogs," Barrymore shared, smiling. "Life is definitely better with rescue dogs."
