Perry, who is this year's co-chair alongside Anna Wintour and Pharrell Williams, wore a Maison Margiela 'Artisanal' dress, designed by John Gallian. It perfectly encapsulated the quirky, architectural creations of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, whose work was being honored at the Costume Institute's new exhibit.

The head-turning number featured a red décortiqué embroidered wool coat layered over a red tulle and silk chiffon dress with embroidered satin ribbon embellishments. She completed the look with bright red heeled boots.

Her face was covered with a sheer red silk veil and intricate "Witness" headpiece, but you could still make out her dramatic makeup -- deep blue, glittery eyeshadow and sparkly red lips.

Of course, it's always in the details for Perry. She completed her bold look with three statement rings by Lorraine Schwartz and bedazzled acrylic nails.
