Flashback: Halle's Tearful Oscar
February 24, 2012
In 2002, Halle Berry won the Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in Monster's Ball, delivering an emotional, passionate speech that brought tears to many.
"This moment is so much bigger than me," she declared, attempting to compose herself. "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women that stand beside me, Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox. And it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."
Halle used her Oscar moment to thank a laundry list of inspirations and aides, from her mom, director and producers to her manager, agents, lawyers and even Oprah.
