Shirley Temple was, arguably, the first child star, starting her career in 1932 at the age of three and rising to super-stardom with 'Bright Eyes,' 'Curly Top' and 'Heidi.' But Temple quit the business in 1950 at the age of 21 and while still making a handful of guest appearances, she focused more on politics and was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia. She also served on a number of boards, including Bank of America and National Wildlife Federation.
