Long before reality TV competitions were the rage, "American Gladiators" brought extreme sports to the tube. Each week, "American Gladiators" featured two teams, one male and one female, competing in highly physical events against the pumped up stars of the series whose monikers included such names as Blaze, Laser, Nitro, Titan and Zap. After enduring a series of punishing events, the winners of the final round walked home with a hard-earned $35,000. Keep in mind that the original series premiered in 1989. The three-disc DVD set set includes episodes from the first season, a special booklet on the gladiators and commentaries from Nitro, Zap and Laser.
