Backstory: Edward Cullen was a teenager dying of the Spanish flu in 1918 when he was made into a vampire by Carlisle Cullen. Along with his adopted family, the Cullen clan, he lives as a "vegetarian" vampire, only drinking the blood of animals, rather than people. He falls in love with mortal Bella Swan. Edward has a supernatural ability to read minds, and, mysteriously, Bella's mind is the only one he can't read.
