The Team Jess and Team Dean fans didn’t take kindly to the new man in Rory’s life.

The Team Jess and Team Dean stans are intense! Actor Matt Czuchry was forced into a tough situation in 2004 when he joined the cast of Gilmore Girls as Logan Huntzberger.

Logan was one of Rory Gilmore’s main love interests, eventually proposing to her in the seventh season and coming back as (maybe?) the father of her unborn child in the show’s revival. But animosity toward the entitled heir to the Huntzberger fortune started early.

Czuchry, 40, who went on to star on The Good Wife and now The Resident, recalled getting stopped by fans in the street during Wednesday night’s interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show.

“Yeah, you know, in the first season [I was on the show] especially, people would just come up to me immediately without saying anything and say, ‘You know, you’re a real a**hole,’” he said laughing.

The comments started as early as a “couple episodes in,” Czuchry noted.

“I would ask them, ‘OK, why am I an a**hole?’ and they’d say, ‘You know why you’re an a**hole,’” he said, noting he didn’t realize they were referencing  Logan at first. “Then they’d say, ‘No, no, no I’m Team Jess or Team Dean.’ I went, ‘Oh! You’re talking about the character on the show.’ I didn’t know what was going on. Literally people would just come up to me and say how much of an a**hole I was.”

The beloved mother-daughter drama’s Netflix revival ended on a cliffhanger in 2016 when Rory (Alexis Bledel) told her mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) that she was pregnant.

The show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, has since created her hit Amazon series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which recently picked up several Golden Globe wins. Watch the clip below for ET’s exclusive interview with the cast!
