Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey, publicly spoke out against her daughter's relationship with Bieber in a recent interview.

Selena Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey, hasn't changed her tune on Justin Bieber, but that doesn't mean her relationship with her daughter has completely suffered.

A source tells ET that Teefey, who recently spoke out against Gomez's rekindled romance with Bieber, "knows not to bring it up anymore" for the sake of her relationship with Gomez.

"[Mandy has] said her piece, and Selena knows how she feels about it, and that’s that,” ET's source reveals. “For the sake of their own relationship, they just don’t talk about it. Mandy knows that Selena is an adult and she’s going to do what she wants."

"Now that [her opinion of Bieber] is out in the open, there’s no need to keep dwelling on it. Her mom’s not going to do anything to try to sabotage things, and she will never give Selena an ultimatum [like] him or us," the source shares.

In an interview with GossipCop, Teefey expressed her displeasure with Bieber, whom she says she hasn't spoken to or texted in "years."

"Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe and healthy," Teefey said in the interview, before noting that her daughter "is 25 years old and knows what is at stake with her health. I do not control her the way it has been portrayed.”

ET's source believes the reason that Teefey doesn't like Bieber is because she thinks he was a "terrible influence."

"It was a toxic relationship and something that took Selena many years to get over," the source presumes. "Lately, Selena has been in such a good place that people close to her were surprised she let Justin back in. Naturally, Mandy worried that all her progress would be undone."

"She really wants the best for Selena and wants Selena to keep moving forward, not backward,” the source adds.

At the end of the day, ET's source says that Teefey and Gomez share an unbreakable bond. "They’ve been through ups and downs in the past and have always overcome them, and I’m sure they’ll be able to move past this one day as well. Right now, they both just need to keep working on themselves,” the source says.
