Samuel L. Jackson walked the red carpet with the cast of 'Soul Men' at the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem Tuesday night -- and ET was there! While it was a night for celebration, Jennifer Hudson's personal tragedy -- and the memories of co-starsBernie Mac and Isaac Hayes -- was foremost on people's minds.
Stars like Chris Rock, Don Cheadle, ReverendJesseJackson and Samuel L. Jackson were just a couple of A-list stars on hand for the touching memorial for late comedian Bernie Mac, held Saturday in Mac's hometown of Chicago. Click here to see video of the funeral service.
Bernie Mac was laid to rest on Saturday in Chicago, and ET has video from the star-studded funeral as thousands of people turned out to pay tribute to the late actor and comedian.
Funnyman D.L. Hughley says he will speak at Bernie Mac's memorial on Saturday in Chicago, which will be held at noon at the 10,000-seat House of Hope for fans and friends of the late star.
"I hate funerals. I don't like going to church. I feel like Bernie kind of punk'd me on this one," Hughley said during his stand-up comedy this week at the Tempe Improv comedy club in Arizona, USA Today reports via The Arizona Republic.
Bernie Macmay be gone, but he leaves among his legacy the upcoming movie 'Soul Men,' in which he stars opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Isaac Hayes, who also passed away unexpectedly this weekend.
"Both those guys were tremendous talents and just genuine gentlemen," 'Soul Men' director Malcolm D. Lee tells ET. "It's a tremendous loss, both in the comedic world and the music world -- they were both giants."
A public memorial will be held for actor/comedian Bernie Mac Saturday in Chicago following his death over the weekend, his rep tells ET.
The memorial will be held at noon August 16 at the city's House of Hope church, which can accommodate up to 10,000 people. Mac died Saturday in the hospital after suffering complications from pneumonia.
More stars are remembering the incredible Bernie Mac, who died over the weekend of complications from pneumonia.
"Grey's Anatomy" doc Chandra Wilson tells ET's Kevin Frazier, "It just broke my heart because, you know, there was so much left." While James Pickens Jr. says, "He was just too young; 50 is too young."
Before he passed away Sunday, soul-music great Isaac Hayes sat down with Steppin' Out magazine and, ironically enough, addressed the question of how he'd like people to remember him.
"As someone who used his talent for the benefit of mankind," he explained. "And as someone who made this world a more pleasant place to live.
Funnyman Dane Cook and Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada were among those who spoke out about the loss of Bernie Mac at a special tribute to the comic last night. Watch the video to see what they had to say ...
ET has confirmed that soul singer Isaac Hayes died at his home today in Memphis at age 65. Sadly, the famed crooner recently finished shooting the movie 'Soul Men,' along with comic Bernie Mac, who also just passed away Saturday morning.
