Singer BOY GEORGE began the first of his five days of court-ordered community service Monday, which involves picking up trash and sweeping the streets of New York City.
Soon after he began working, though, the former CULTURE CLUB frontman found himself surrounded by photographers looking to snap a shot of the '80s icon decked out in a Department of Sanitation-issued orange safety vest.
"This is supposed to be making me humble," he said to the shutterbugs. "Just let me do it."
However, he did appear to be in good spirits, often smiling as he swept.
The community service is part of a plea deal made by the singer, whose real name is GEORGE O'DOWD, after he pled guilty in March to falsely reporting a burglary at his Manhattan residence last December. Upon arrival at his apartment, police instead found cocaine inside.
This is not the entertainer's first run-in with the law. In 1986, Boy George was convicted of heroin possession and subsequently entered a rehabilitation facility.
