When "Dawson's Creek," which filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, came to the end of its run in 2003, "One Tree Hill" began shooting in the vacated locale. On Monday night's episode, Dawson ... or rather James van der Beek, who played the role, returns to his old stomping grounds when he guest stars on "One Tree Hill" as the cokehead director of Lucas' (Chad Michael Murray). The series airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on The CW.

Bodacious bods and basketball turned out to be the recipe for another successful series on The WB, but when "One Tree Hill" premiered, it was not an instant hit. While the struggling series might have been cancelled on a larger network, The WB nurtured its potential and let it grow until it found its footing -- and an audience.
"There were so many great seeds that were planted in the very beginning, and there were so many great things happening with the story," JAMES LAFFERTY tells ET. "It would be nice for people to go see how it developed, especially people just jumping into it now. I am sure they love it now, but their investment in the characters would be a lot more powerful if they had seen the first few episodes."
