Acclaimed director MARTIN SCORSESE's Boston crime drama, 'The Departed,' opened with $27 million this weekend -- his best opening to date! His previous best opening was 1991's 'Cape Fear,' with just over $10 million. The film, starring LEONARDO DiCAPRIO, MATT DAMON and JACK NICHOLSON, is set in the mean streets of South Boston. Leo plays an undercover cop assigned to infiltrate the Irish mob, run by gangland chief Frank Costello (Nicholson), while Damon plays a mole with mob loyalties rising quickly in the Boston Police Special Investigation Unit.

'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning' premiered in second place with $19.2 million. The pic stars JORDANA BREWSTER and charts the origins of Leatherface, who sliced and diced many an unfortunate soul in the backwoods of the Lone Star State in the original 1974 film, 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre' -- not to mention several sequels and a remake.

"It sounds so obnoxious and so 'Charlie's Angels,' but we really became such good, tight friends and I have such love and respect for the both of them," Seth tells ET about filming on location in New Zealand with his co-stars.
