DIANA ROSS talks to ET about the death of her father while attending the KENNEDY Center Honors Sunday night. The legendary singer was one of the five celebrities being recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture.
ET confirms legendary singer DIANA ROSS' father FRED passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 87. "He touched many lives and he will be truly missed," she said in a statement. "I love him very much." She first announced the news at the end of her performance last night and finished the show by singing the title song of her latest CD, "I Love You," which she dedicated to her father.
Delicious diva DIANA ROSS is heading out on tour, with a valentine for her audience in the form of her I Love You CD. One of the stops along the way is FOX's monster hit series, "American Idol," where the music icon will mentor the Final 12 as they prepare to sing songs from her catalog for Tuesday night's competition.
For Ross, who will perform live on the Wednesday night results show, the most exciting part of her "Idol" visit is mentoring the contestants.

In 'Dreamgirls,' the movie musical based on the 1980s Broadway smash, BEYONCÉ plays Deena Jones, a DIANA ROSS-like diva who emerges as the frontwoman of the Motown-style group, The Dreamettes.
Beyoncé lobbied hard to land the role of Deena, in part because she felt such a strong connection with the character, having emerged from the power trio DESTINY'S CHILD to launch a successful solo career. But in order to look the part, Beyoncé had to drop a substantial amount of weight -- 20 pounds -- and keep it off!
