Millions of kids in America are already packing on the pounds, a problem Dr. PHIL McGRAW takes seriously and labels a "silent epidemic." Today, TV's top doc will feature several cases of childhood obesity on his show as he takes a stand for the kids.
"There is nothing more silent than those [epidemics] that affect a child, because they have no voice," Dr. Phil tells ET's JANN CARL. "They have no platform. They have no leverage. The epidemic of obesity in childhood is staggering. Seventy percent of children who are obese will become obese adults."
"American Idol" is back for its sixth ratings-busting season, and it's no wonder that America is tuning in. A great many of the people who show up to audition have to be seen to be believed -- and that has always been the fun of the first few weeks of the competition's search for the next singing sensation!
"I will say this: I'm never a fan of the beginning auditions," PAULA ABDUL told ET in a recent interview. "I get it; they're funny. But for us, [many auditioning singers are] delusional, and you have no idea what it's like for us to sit in our seats. But I tell you, this season, I can't wait to see the beginning, because they're insane. They're insane, and SIMON COWELL thinks I'm actually crossing over to the dark side, because I actually was in my seat saying, 'You've got to be kidding me.'"
DR. PHIL's son, JAY, married ERICA DAHM on Saturday -- and ET was invited by TV's top doc and his wife, ROBIN, inside their Beverly Hills home where the fairytale wedding took place!
Dr. Phil served as Jay's best man, and he was ready! "I looked it up on the Internet and took notes," Phil said of his pre-wedding preparation.
The "41st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards" went head-to-head with the final performance night of "American Idol," but that didn't stop the good time had by all. Besides, the awards show had its own "Idol" secret weapons: KELLY CLARKSON, CARRIE UNDERWOOD and JOSH GRACIN all turned out for country music's big night!
Our JANN CARL was on hand for the event, and these idols were a huge hit! Both Kelly and Carrie performed, and offered up a few tips for success to this year's "Idol" winner.
Just three months ago, Dr. PHIL McGRAW introduced his audience to APRIL, an anorexic who weighed just 78 pounds on her wedding day. Now, after only two months of marriage, her new groom gives her the news that he no longer wants to be married! TV's top doc reveals details from Thursday's attention-grabbing episode.
"What we know is that stress really makes these things worse and here's her husband dumping her while she's in treatment," he tells ET. "Then they meet on this stage to talk about the divorce."
On Valentine's Day, CBS will broadcast a new primetime special all about affairs of the heart, "A Dr. Phil Primetime Special: Love Smart," on which the life strategist teaches viewers how to love smart.
"I always tell people you don't want to love dumb, you want to love smart," Dr. PHIL McGRAW tells ET. "[There is a] big difference between loving dumb and loving smart. This is a special that goes into the trenches about what that means."
The "Christmas in Washington" concert is a tradition that began 24 years ago, and this year the gala event is hosted by Dr. PHIL McGRAW and his lovely wife ROBIN. This is the second time for the McGraws, who had the same honor last year. Once again, the hour-long holiday concert will be attended by President GEORGE W. BUSH and First Lady LAURA BUSH.
"Laura and I have really enjoyed the program tonight," President Bush addressed the crowd at the conclusion of the evening. "We want to thank the entertainers for wonderful performances."

In the thrilling drama 'Harsh Times,' premiering this fall at the Toronto Film Festival, Eva is locking lips with "Six Feet Under"'s FREDDY RODRIGUEZ. In the crime drama Eva trades in her flashy "Desperate Housewives" garb for conservative threads to play a lawyer opposite hell-raising buddies Rodriguez and CHRISTIAN BALE.
A woman addicted to prescription drugs must confront her problem or face serious consequences when she's forced to get real with DR. PHIL in his all-new primetime TV special. But can a woman who actually shoots up backstage before she goes in front of the cameras be able to save her own life?
"You're not going to be able to ever get your hands around this and have a chance to save your life if you aren't willing to get real," says Dr. Phil.
It's been a banner year for OPRAH WINFREY, who began 2004 as the viewers' pick for Favorite Talk Show Host at the People's Choice Awards. ET's STEVEN COJOCARU caught up with America's fave backstage, where the two talked fashion and which "mountain" the TV goddess would climb next. "Everybody has potential," Oprah explained, "and it's about reaching whatever that potential is. I haven't reached mine!"
The rest of 2004 she went on to show just what she could accomplish, but not before celebrating the big 5-0. The party began on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Thursday, Jan. 29, her actual birthday, when she was surprised by the arrival of JOHN TRAVOLTA, TINA TURNER, who actually flew in from Switzerland to sing "Simply the Best," plus Hollywood pals who had special taped messages, such as TOM HANKS, JENNIFER ANISTON, NICOLE KIDMAN, JENNIFER LOPEZ and TOM CRUISE.
DR PHIL and ROBIN McGRAW make the holiday a happy one for 30 children of military personnel based in Iraq on this week's "Dr. Phil." ET was behind the scenes for the big bash, which the couple held at their home in Beverly Hills, CA.
"You want to focus on giving at Christmas," Dr. Phil tells ET. "We thought there would be no better place than for these children whose parents are deployed to Iraq, are in harm's way and not home for the holidays. Robin said, 'I just want to open our home for these children.'"
