Baseball has its trading cards. Now "American Idol" will have its own limited-edition collectable stamps featuring KELLY CLARKSON, RUBEN STUDDARD, FANTASIA, CARRIE UNDERWOOD, TAYLOR HICKS, JORDIN SPARKS and the soon-to-be named winner of season seven.
Out of the 103,000 people who auditioned for "American Idol" this year, tonight it is down to the Final Two -- JORDIN SPARKS and BLAKE LEWIS. The two remaining hopefuls will compete one final time -- and then on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on FOX, the sixth "American Idol" will join the ranks of KELLY CLARKSON, RUBEN STUDDARD, FANTASIA, CARRIE UNDERWOOD and TAYLOR HICKS.
On tonight's show, both Jordin and Blake will perform the song that won the "American Idol" songwriters competition, sing a new song that they selected themselves, and then rock the audience with an encore of one of their earlier favorites.
As the Top 10 try to make their mark on tonight's episode of "American Idol," Executive Producer NIGEL LYTHGOE takes time out to answer questions about the hit talent competition.
ET: The ratings are down about 10 percent for the performance show, and the results show a little less. Some of the attrition has to do with the switch to daytime savings time. Are you concerned about the loss?
It's always something with "American Idol" and Tuesday's night performance show, with more than 26 million viewers, was no exception as brothers TERRELL and DERRELL created an on-stage incident.
"There was a misunderstanding," "Idol" judge and ET special correspondent PAULA ABDUL tells MARK STEINES on a visit to Stage 28. "But that doesn't make up for their behavior."
When the 48th Annual Grammy® Awards air tonight two "American Idol" winners -- KELLY CLARKSON and FANTASIA -- are in the running to take home the gold statuette. Kelly is nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal and Best Pop Vocal Album, while Fantasia has four R&B nominations.
That makes ET's special correspondent PAULA ABDUL one proud mama. "At the beginning, the industry poo pooed 'American Idol,'" the two-time Grammy winner tells MARY HART on the green carpet at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "But the record industry is in a weird state. It is upside down. The impact 'American Idol' has made -- we are creating real legitimate super stars. That is something to be really proud of."
"American Idol" hit Sin City on its audition tour of the United States, and on Tuesday night's hourlong episode of the search for the next singing superstar, PAULA ABDUL, RANDY JACKSON and SIMON COWELL rated the talent in Las Vegas, but Simon couldn't resist sparking a new controversy with a few snide comments about the size of the contestants. Who can forget when he said, "We can't afford the food bill," when the judges rejected a plus-sized singer?
"I am sure he is loving the letters coming in from all the eating disorder associations," comments Paula, who popped by Stage 26 to fill MARY HART in on the latest "Idol" chatter and behind-the-scenes scoop. "He has the easiest job. He can say whatever he wants to say and go smoke a cigarette. I have to sit there and I just feel so bad, because afterwards we take a five minute break and we have to see the kids and the parents on the way out."
More than 32 million people tuned in to watch Wednesday night's "American Idol" San Francisco auditions and were shocked when a battle between the judges made SIMON COWELL stalk out of the room and leave the city!
"He sure can dish it out," PAULA ABDUL tells MARY HART on the ET set. "They said Randy and I kept winding him up by saying there was something wrong with his ears. He was being obnoxious to the girl who was singing. He had just had it. Not only did he leave, but he left and took the plane home!"
"American Idol" continues its countdown to the Final 24 this week, with excerpts from the best and the worst singers from auditions that took place this summer in San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Denver and Greensboro.
The judges -- PAULA ABDUL, RANDY JACKSON and Mr. Nasty SIMON COWELL -- will be selecting the group who get to move on to the Hollywood Round, which will begin airing on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
"American Idol" has been on the road since August 18, when it launched the search for the guys and gals who will compete in the fifth season of TV's No. 1 talent competition. Thousands of hopefuls have been flexing their vocal chords in hopes of becoming the next KELLY CLARKSON, RUBEN STUDDARD or CARRIE UNDERWOOD.
ET is with PAULA ABDUL, RANDY JACKSON, SIMON COWELL and RYAN SEACREST when the three judges and the show host head out to Boston to decide just which of the thousands of crooners gets a ticket to Hollywood.
"American Idol Live!" has been touring the country since it debuted in July at the Office Depot Center in Sunrise, FL. This weekend the 10 "Idol" finalists came to San Jose, CA, and PAULA ABDUL was on hand to take us backstage for an inside look at the "Idols" on tour and a few behind-the-scenes secrets -- like who takes the longest to get ready!
"CARRIE UNDERWOOD, you might be coming up in the ranks," CONSTANTINE MAROULIS teases.
Only BO BICE, ANTHONY FEDOROV, SCOTT SAVOL, VONZELL SOLOMON and CARRIE UNDERWOOD remain in the battle to become the next "American Idol." Who will stay and who will go? After last week's stunning results show, during which RYAN SEACREST announced that CONSTANTINE MAROULIS received the lowest number of votes, it is clear that no one is safe. Fans must vote for their favorite each week to keep them in the competition.
"It was mayhem after the show," judge PAULA ABDUL tells ET's MARY HART. "This was one of the strangest, most shocking upsets of all of the seasons. Everyone was shocked. It wasn't just a female thing. Everyone's jaws dropped open. Grown men and young boys all agreed that Constantine was cool and he was a great performer."
While there are no more comebacks in the cards for NIKKO SMITH, the remaining eight "American Idol" hopefuls take the stage again tonight (FOX, 8 p.m.) hoping to wow the country and stay out of the bottom three!
Last week, FANTASIA BARRINO, the reigning "Idol" from last season, kicked off the show with a rousing soulful number. When asked if she had any advice for the remaining hopefuls, she said, "Have a good time ... if you don't make it, it's just a good door open for you -- take it and run with it. Act ugly!"
Even though PAULA ABDUL crowned him "The Comeback Kid," there are no more comebacks in the cards for NIKKO SMITH, as he was ousted from the "Idol" last night.
