The lighthearted superhero flick 'Hancock,' starring box office heavyweight Will Smith, finished No. 1 during the Fourth of July holiday weekend by earning $66 million, studio estimates showed.
The Columbia Pictures (Sony) action-comedy opened July 2 and has so far taken in an estimated total of $107.3 million. The movie stars Smith as John Hancock, a
reluctant superhero who is more likely to get drunk than try to save
the world. Jason Bateman plays a public relations exec whose life is saved by
Hancock, and Charlize Theron plays Bateman's wife, who also happens to be
Hancock's biggest critic.
Pixar and Disney's animated robot love story 'WALL-E' finished first in the weekend box office race with an estimated $62.5 million, the third highest opening for a Pixar film.
The family flick, utilizing the voices of Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Fred Willard, John Ratzenberger and Sigourney Weaver, was in a league with 'The Incredibles,' which debuted at $70.4 million in 2004, and Pixar's 'Finding Nemo,' which opened with $70.2 million in 2003.
'Get Smart,' the big screen version of the classic 1960's TV spy comedy, finished No. 1 at the box office this weekend by bringing in an estimated $39.1 million, studio projections showed.
The Warner Bros action comedy stars STEVE CARELL as bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart, who teams up with his lovely sidekick Agent 99 (ANNE HATHAWAY) to battle an evil crime nemesis known as KAOS.
DWAYNE JOHNSON taps his softer side in the new big-screen comedy 'Get Smart,' and the former WWE wrestler tells ET what it was like to kiss STEVE CARELL onscreen!
"That's the length I'd go as a committed actor," says Johnson, adding with his trademark smirk, "Steve, for some reason, just wanted to do take after take after take after take."
ANNE HATHAWAY and STEVE CARELL are getting ready to debut their spy spoof, 'Get Smart,' this summer and they're sitting down with ET's JANN CARL to dish about the film.
HARRISON FORD, GEORGE CLOONEY, SARAH JESSICA PARKER, KATHERINE HEIGL, TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES are all gearing up for one of the biggest years for movies yet -- and ET has your sneak peek at the must-see flicks of 2008!
ET is with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway on the set of 'Get Smart'!
Sorry 'bout that, Chief! The '60s TV classic "Get Smart" is getting the big-screen treatment with STEVE CARELL taking on the role of Maxwell Smart, and ET's JANN CARL was on the top-secret set!
Freshly minted Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner ALAN ARKIN will join his 'Little Miss Sunshine' co-star STEVE CARELL in a big-screen version of 'Get Smart,' according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Arkin will play the chief of CONTROL, the organization that fights the evil forces of KAOS -- a character that was originated by EDWARD PLATT in the 1960s comedy TV series created by MEL BROOKS and BUCK HENRY. The veteran Arkin joins the already cast STEVE CARELL as Maxwell Smart, ANNE HATHAWAY as Agent 99, DWAYNE "THE ROCK" JOHNSON and TERENCE STAMP. 'Tommy Boy' and 'Anger Management' helmer PETER SEGAL will direct the project.
ANNE HATHAWAY will star opposite STEVE CARELL in a big-screen remake of the '60s TV comedy, "Get Smart."
Variety reports that the actress will play the role of doting Agent 99 -- originated on the small screen by BARBARA FELDON -- with Carell playing the role of bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart that DON ADAMS created for the classic sitcom.
