Despite a great season this year, "Gilmore Girls," starring LAUREN GRAHAM and ALEXIS BLEDEL, won't be back for an eighth season as contract agreements could not be reached by all the parties involved.

The following joint statement was released today by The CW and Warner Bros. Television: "Announcing the final season of 'Gilmore Girls' is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters. We thank AMY SHERMAN-PALLADINO, DAN PALLADINO, DAVE ROSENTHAL, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years. We would also like to thank the critics and 'Gilmore' fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send-off it deserves."

Sixty-one and still sexy, DIANE KEATON stars as a mother of three whose well-intentioned but meddling ways get her into hot water in 'Because I Said So,' in theaters February 2.

"I think this movie is like a real toast to mothers," the Oscar winner tells ET's JANN CARL. "I really do, because I think they're the real unsung heroes."

L.A. Fashion Week, Bryant Park's sassy little sister, rolled out the red carpet this weekend at the Smashbox Studios in Culver City with Friday's Gen Art's "Fresh Faces in Fashion" show. The launching pad for new designers was hosted by Bravo TV's "Project Runway" alum NICK VERREOS and GARCELLE BEAUVAIS-NILON.

At Sunday's lineup, flamboyant designer SUE WONG, who excels in elaborate, vintage gowns and transformed FERGIE into an elegant nightclub chanteuse for 'Poseidon,' mixed flirty, '50s-style halter dresses with elaborate, beaded wedding gowns. Seated in the front row were "Grey's Anatomy" cutie SARA RAMIREZ and "CSI: Miami" siren SOFIA MILOS.

Breaking up is hard to do, especially after it took six years to get together, but that is just what is happening on the seventh season premiere of "Gilmore Girls," when Lorelai (Lauren Graham) tells Luke (Scott Patterson) their relationship is over, after she slept with Christopher (David Sutcliffe) -- her ex and her daughter Rory's (Alexis Bledel) father -- because Luke wouldn't marry her. This is one triangle that may take an entire season to work out!

"The audience doesn't want it to end," Scott tells ET. "That's the problem. If you get these two characters together, then maybe the show is over and the fans aren't going to like that too much. I don't think it's a great idea to give the fans what they think they want."

When "Veronica Mars" returns for its third season, our feisty heroine will be starting her freshman year at Hearst College, proving that it is possible to grow up on television. But before we get too carried away, she won't be completely on her own, as she will still be living at home. In real life, KRISTEN BELL, who plays Veronica, just turned 26, a fact that does affect the decisions she makes on the roles she takes during her hiatus.

"I love the fact that most people believe that I'm younger than I am," she admits. "There's certainly a part of me that yearns to play my age and a young woman that is having a lifestyle without her parents. I think that's what really differentiates projects to me, whether or not their parents are characters. I can be playing a 19-year-old, but if it's a film that I'm reading, I might like it more because the parents aren't in the film."

Some surprises and even a few "desperate" snubs came out of this morning's Emmy nominations, when BRAD GARRETT and JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS announced the contenders for the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy® Awards!

Leading the TV series race this time out is "24," which pulled in 12 nods, followed by "Grey's Anatomy" with 11 noms and "Will and Grace" with 10 -- but missing from any lead acting categories were popular drama "Lost" and those feisty "Desperate Housewives."

When the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy® Awards nominations are announced by BRAD GARRETT and JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS on Thursday morning, expect some surprises. The voting for the prestigious TV awards has been changed this year to try to level out the competition between the big three networks and the smaller channels, so shows such as the "Gilmore Girls," "Veronica Mars" and "Battlestar Galactica" may finally get the recognition TV critics feel they deserve.

"This year the Emmy nominations should not look like a rerun," says Emmy expert TOM O'NEIL, who shares his expertise with ET and also on his Web site goldderby.latimes.com, which is part of theenvelope.latimes.com. "There is a new voting process that hopes to welcome in new blood."

The new CW network is combining the best of The WB and UPN as it launches its first schedule for fall 2006.

In surprising news, "7th Heaven," which many assumed would be canceled, returns for an eleventh season, again anchoring Monday night. It is the launch pad for the network's one new drama, "Runaway," from executive producer DARREN STAR. There's a lot of new sci-fi TV shows on the fall schedule: "Invasion," "Threshold" and "Surface," but "Supernatural," airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on The WB, stands out with its combination of small town ghost stories and exploration of American urban myths. It has been such a ratings success for the network in its time period that it just received a full-season pickup.

The paranormal drama is from "The O.C." exec producer McG, and stars two WB alumni JARED PADALECKI ("Gilmore Girls") and JENSEN ACKLES ("Smallville"), playing brothers searching for evil creatures in a show that each week will take a journey into the dark side.
