Samuel L. Jackson walked the red carpet with the cast of 'Soul Men' at the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem Tuesday night -- and ET was there! While it was a night for celebration, Jennifer Hudson's personal tragedy -- and the memories of co-starsBernie Mac and Isaac Hayes -- was foremost on people's minds.
More than 3,000 friends and fans gathered in Memphis to celebrate the life of the late soul icon Isaac Hayes, including the likes of Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson and actress Kelly Preston, the Associated Press reports.
A memorial service for the late Isaac Hayes will be held on Monday in Cordova, TN, to celebrate the life of the soul icon, who died of a stroke associated with hypertension on Sunday. He was 65.
Bernie Macmay be gone, but he leaves among his legacy the upcoming movie 'Soul Men,' in which he stars opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Isaac Hayes, who also passed away unexpectedly this weekend.
"Both those guys were tremendous talents and just genuine gentlemen," 'Soul Men' director Malcolm D. Lee tells ET. "It's a tremendous loss, both in the comedic world and the music world -- they were both giants."
Before he passed away Sunday, soul-music great Isaac Hayes sat down with Steppin' Out magazine and, ironically enough, addressed the question of how he'd like people to remember him.
"As someone who used his talent for the benefit of mankind," he explained. "And as someone who made this world a more pleasant place to live.
Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley are speaking out to ET today on the loss of singer Isaac Hayes. Priscilla tells us: "I am shocked. We have lost not only an incredible talent but a wonderful leader to his community and a dear friend. To me there will only be one Isaac Hayes, gifting us with years of performing, writing and a voice that penetrated deep into our souls. He is to be admired for changing his life around and standing steadfast to his beliefs, his integrity and to helping others. My heart goes out to his family, his wife, Adjowa, and his beloved children, and to those who loved him for just being him. Isaac, you will be missed but never forgotten."
ET has confirmed that soul singer Isaac Hayes died at his home today in Memphis at age 65. Sadly, the famed crooner recently finished shooting the movie 'Soul Men,' along with comic Bernie Mac, who also just passed away Saturday morning.
