It is only two months since David Cook was crowned the "American Idol," but plans for season eight are already underway as are auditions in San Francisco today in the search for the next singing sensation. And according to the show's executive producer Nigel Lythoge, who was at a press conference for another of his FOX shows -- "So You Think You Can Dance" -- not much will change next year.
When the 49-city "Pop-Tarts Presents American Idol Live! Tour 2008," hits your city, David Cook, David Archuleta, Jason Castro, Michael Johns and the rest of the Top 10 will be performing mini-concerts, with just a couple of group numbers thrown into the mix. So each time an "Idol" finalist comes on the stage, it will have an entirely new look.
Season seven's climactic battle of the Davids reached its exciting conclusion on Wednesday night's grand finale. Viewers decisively crowned DAVID COOK the new "American Idol," spurring him to victory over DAVID ARCHULETA by a 12-million vote margin.
"I am absolutely at a loss for words right now," Cook stammered, moved to tears by the emotion of his big moment. "This is amazing. Thank you."
"It was starting to get really rough for me," JASON CASTRO tells ET in his exit interview from "American Idol." The 20-year-old Texan goes on to explain that he believes his inexperience came in to play when he had to learn two songs in one week.
Then he watches as ET presents him a message from PAULA ABDUL, who believes in his talent.
JASON CASTRO made "American Idol"'s Final Four, but that is as far as his laid-back style will take him in the talent competition. With two songs to sing on Tuesday night's performance show -- BOB MARLEY's "I Shot the Sheriff" and BOB DYLAN's "Tambourine Man" -- the dreadlocked cutie faltered and forgot the words, but not on purpose as some have suggested.
It was "bye-bye" for happy-go-lucky JASON CASTRO on tonight's "American Idol" -- what did PAULA ABDUL have to say about the dreadlocked crooner's exit? We're riding along with the judge to get all the post-"Idol" scoop!
One night after the Final Four raided the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for inspiration, America told JASON CASTRO to keep on rockin' in the free world -- just not on this season's remaining "Idol" shows!
The dreadlocked dudester nonetheless seemed unfazed on Wednesday night's results program when he learned he wouldn't be making the Final Three -- coveted seats now occupied by DAVID COOK, SYESHA MERCADO and DAVID ARCHULETA. "I don't know what I would've done [next week]," Jason laughed, knowing that the Final Three must each sing three tunes next Tuesday.
We're riding along with PAULA ABDUL for all the post-"American Idol" dish. What does the judge have to say about contestant JASON CASTRO's lyrics flub on tonight's performance show? And who does Paula think will be the last two standing? Watch our video to find out!
Only DAVID COOK, DAVID ARCHULETA, JASON CASTRO and SYESHA MERCADO remain in the "American Idol" competition. This week's theme is songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Each of the Final Four had to select two songs from the hallowed institution for tonight's performances.
It's down to the final four on this season of "American Idol," and the final lucky crooners (JASON CASTRO, SYESHA MERCADO, DAVID ARCHULETA and DAVID COOK) traveled to Las Vegas this weekend, where they got the VIP treatment at a Saturday performance of the BEATLES'Love by CIRQUE DU SOLEIL. Footage from the show will air on this Wednesday's episode of "Idol."
There is no doubt in SIMON COWELL's mind that this year's "American Idol" finale will be a competition between the two David's -- DAVID ARCHULETA and DAVID COOK -- he indicated at a press conference to promote this summer's "America's Got Talent," on which he is the creator/executive producer.
The competition was intense on Tuesday night's "American Idol" performance show, with each of the Final 5 required to perform two numbers selected from this week's mentor's -- NEIL DIAMOND -- extensive songbook.
Were riding along with PAULA ABDUL to find out what she thinks of Irish lass CARLY SMITHSON's early departure from "American Idol" tonight. And what did she make of the fact that that both of this week's bottom two, Carly and SYESHA MERCADO, got rave reviews last night, while BROOKE WHITE and JASON CASTRO made it unto the top four vote-getters despite being panned by the judges. Find out by watching our brand-new vid!
One night after the Final 6 tackled the show tunes of ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, the light died down on "Broadway" for CARLY SMITHSON, whom viewers sent packing on Wednesday evening's results show.
"I apologize for giving you a compliment last night -- kiss of death," SIMON COWELL jested with the tattooed singer, adding: "But let me tell you, Carly, you can leave with your head held high."
Broadway was in the air as "American Idol"'s Final 6 took on the tunes of composer ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER Tuesday night. Their challenge was, in SIMON COWELL's estimation, to make themselves "sound memorable yet contemporary."
SYESHA MERCADO kicked things off in alluring fashion, performing "One Rock & Roll Too Many" atop a piano in a sexy red dress. RANDY JACKSON approved, saying, "Not only is this your element … That's your best performance to date." PAULA ABDUL concurred, adding, "This is your happy place, and you're real good at it." Even Simon had to admit, "This was one of your strongest performances so far."
