Actor Joaquin Phoenix appeared unresponsive and barely cracked a smile while giving mumbling answers during an appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Wednesday night.

ET was on hand last night at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre, where 20th Century Fox hosted a star-studded tribute to a true musical legend -- JOHNNY CASH.
Fox will be releasing a film based on the early life of The Man In Black, called 'Walk The Line' November 18, starring JOAQUIN PHOENIX as Johnny Cash and REESE WITHERSPOON as his wife JUNE CARTER CASH. Both stars attended last night's event.
The music of "The Man In Black" lives on, with The Legend Of Cash-- the first album to span JOHNNY CASH's entire career, which lasted from 1955 to 2003.
The big year-end award season kicked off Monday night in Los Angeles as stars like HALLE BERRY, JENNIFER ANISTON, CHARLIZE THERON, SANDRA BULLOCK, JODIE FOSTER and KEANU REEVES converged on the Beverly Hilton for the 2005 Hollywood Awards® to give and receive accolades.
