Television icon Ed McMahon passed away at the age of 86. The former "Tonight Show" announcer is survived by his wife Pamela, as well as five children: Claudia, Linda, Katherine, Jeffrey and Lex and was pre-deceased by son Michael.
In new papers obtained by ET, Ed McMahon sues L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on nine grounds, including negligence, battery, fraud, elder abuse and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The papers, which request a jury trial, allege that the former "Tonight Show" host underwent three neck surgeries as a result of the named defendants' actions, "leaving him with permanent and significant residual injuries and causing him substantial financial, emotional and physical damages."

For years, PAM McMAHON lived a rollercoaster existence in an effort to manage her weight. The wife of former "Tonight Show" sidekick ED McMAHON, Pam went from dieting and starving herself to binging and purging and trying every trick in the book, from Atkins, South Beach and The Zone diets to pills and shakes.
"I can't remember a time in my life that I didn't think I was overweight, or just big," she tells ET. In fact, her self-esteem was so low, she says, "The first time that Ed asked me out, the first thing that went through my mind was, 'Why would he ever want to ask me out?' I just couldn't believe it."
PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN has been making waves and snagging awards for his top-notch performance as famed writer TRUMAN CAPOTE ever since the Oscar®-nominated 'Capote' hit theaters last fall. When the In Cold Blood author wasn't working away at a book, he made a number of memorable appearances on "The Tonight Show." We go inside his lost interview with JOHNNY CARSON from more than 30 years ago.
"Have you ever been ripped off?" Johnny asks the charismatic Capote.
The legends we lost in 2005 were many. From JOHNNY CARSON to RICHARD PRYOR and PETER JENNINGS, the contribution these individuals made to their respective professions will leave an indelible mark.
Carson, the much-admired "King of Late Night," passed away Jan. 23 from emphysema at 79. As the longest-running host of NBC's "The Tonight Show," Carson chatted with over 24,000 guests on 4,531 shows in 30 years, giving many comedians their first big break, including ELLEN DeGENERES and DAVID LETTERMAN. His longtime TV partner and good friend, ED McMAHON, reflected on the loss: "He listened to the pulse of the country. In his monologue, if you wanted to know what was going on in the world, listen to his monologue. I will miss him."
When late night talk show king JOHNNY CARSON died this past January at 79, he was survived by his beloved wife ALEX, 54, and two grown sons, CHRIS and CORY.
Now, a published report in the tabloids claims Johnny died a sad and embittered man, as his wife was reportedly addicted to painkillers and their marriage had fallen apart. But is it true?
The beloved "Tonight Show" host JOHNNY CARSON died less than a month ago and now ET has obtained the "King of Late Night"'s death certificate. It answers many questions and squashes rumors that swirled after his death.
After speculation that the funnyman passed away at his Malibu home, the document states that he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The late night tributes to JOHNNY CARSON continued last night when DAVID LETTERMAN dedicated the entire hour of his show to the man he considered his mentor.
Dave opened the show with a monologue of jokes that had been sent to him from Johnny in past months, and made it clear that without the king of late night, he wouldn't be where he is today: "Truthfully, no stretch of the imagination, I owe everything in my professional career, whatever success we've attained, to Johnny Carson, because he was nice enough to give me the opportunity, and throughout my career, was always very supportive."
"Heeeeere's Johnny!" You know the theme -- but do you know the theme writer? ET caught up with PAUL ANKA, who composed the theme to "The Tonight Show Starring JOHNNY CARSON."
"We went up to the office and had a little talk," Paul explains to ET's KEVIN FRAZIER. "We came up with [the theme]. Back then, Johnny felt if we get three to five years out of the show it would be great. Thirty years later, we're going with the longest theme ever on TV."
It's no secret the late, great JOHNNY CARSON jumpstarted the careers of many fellow funny folk like JERRY SEINFELD and JAY LENO. So it was they and a number of famous friends who gathered Tuesday night for an intimate and private memorial at the famous Hollywood eatery Dan Tana's.
"They were here for hours actually," DAN TANA told ET about the huge roster of comics who attended. "They had dinner and then stayed for hours!"
The late and legendary JOHNNY CARSON made his loyal fans ache with laughter for more than three decades on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." But behind the smiles, the talk-show king had his share of scary moments that can come hand in hand with the mantle of being such a public figure.
Carson's good friend and former colleague, "Tonight Show" band leader DOC SEVERINSEN, revealed that Johnny paid for the price of fame in a way many of his fans never knew about.
