On Monday, ET broke the tragic news that "Press Your Luck" game show host PETER TOMARKEN was killed when his small Beechcraft airplane crashed into the ocean about a half-mile south of the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles. Tomarken is just one of a number of entertainers who have tragically perished in a plane crash, had a close call in the air or crashed and survived.
We all remember that fateful day on July 16, 1999 when JOHN F. KENNEDY JR.'s plane, carrying his wife CAROLYN BESSETTE and sister-in-law LAUREN BESSETTE, fatally plunged into the sea on the way to a family gathering in Massachusetts. R&B singer AALIYAH was killed in the crash of a chartered plane shortly after takeoff in August 2001 while shooting a music video in the Bahamas. And singer/songwriter JOHN DENVER was piloting an experimental Long-EZ plane when he ran out of fuel and crashed just off the coast of Pacific Grove, CA, in October 1997, ending his life.
