Rape charges against KOBE BRYANT were dropped today when the 20-year-old accuser told the prosecution she would no longer cooperate in the case. No specifics of the arrangement have been released.
The L.A. Laker was not present in Colorado for the hearing. However, in response to the dismissal, he issued his own statement apologizing to the victim, yet maintaining his innocence: "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did," Bryant said in the statement read by his attorney, PAMELA MACKEY. "After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter."
On October 20th, after a two-part preliminary hearing, Eagle County, CO, Judge FREDERICK GANNETT ruled that the KOBE BRYANT sexual assault case will go to trial. In between basketball games, the L.A. Lakers star is scheduled to be back in the Colorado courthouse on Thursday for another hearing, where he may or may not enter a plea.

As far as any potential bombshells, Clark says, "There's a rumor that the defense has DNA evidence that was found in the semen that would indicate there was another sexual partner for the alleged victim other than Kobe Bryant. At this point, it's only a rumor and a rumor that was put out into the press in order to give some new reason for the last question asked by PAMELA MACKEY. Whether or not that will be pursued is a matter of whether they want to put on their own evidence to pump up the defense."
After shocking testimony from an Eagle County detective Thursday, the Colorado judge in the high-profile KOBE BRYANT sexual assault case asked both legal teams to return next Wednesday before he makes a decision on whether to proceed to trial.
Eagle County Sheriff's Detective DOUG WINTERS gave a graphic account of what allegedly occurred in the Laker star's hotel room on June 30. ET legal analyst MARCIA CLARK was in the courthouse and tells our JANN CARL that Winters was the officer who took the report from the alleged victim. He testified that she said she first met Bryant while giving him a tour of the Cordillera Spa and Lodge. Clark recounted the sheriff's testimony in this way:
