Television personality LEEZA GIBBONS shared the sad news on Tuesday that her mother, GLORIA JEAN GIBBONS, had passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Gloria Jean was 72.
The matriarch of the Gibbons family, who was born in South Carolina on March 26, 1936, passed away on Thursday, May 22, and funeral services were held over the weekend. In addition to Leeza, she is survived by her husband of 55 years CARLOS GIBBONS, her children CARLOS JR. and CAMMY, Carlos Jr.'s wife ANNE
MARIE, six grandchildren and a sister.
LEEZA GIBBONS and her professional partner, TONY DOVOLANI, hung up their dancing shoes this week, as they were the latest couple eliminated from ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."
"What if I demand a recount -- hanging chads?" joked Leeza, who was gracious about her departure. "I believe just showing up for your life any time makes you a winner," she said. "[Tony] has been such a teacher; this experience has been such a life lesson for me."
Nine couples returned to the ballroom on Monday night's "Dancing with the Stars" for another round of treading the boards. This week's dances were the romantic waltz and the passionate paso doble.
HEATHER MILLS and JONATHAN ROBERTS drew the waltz for their performance. Bruno commented, "You continue to amaze me. I have to give credit to Jonathan for crafting such beautiful dances. You are the mistress of mind over matter." Carrie Ann disagreed, saying, "I think this week wasn't as good. I know it is a more difficult dance for you. I saw it in your body language." Len said, "I thought overall you did a great job." The couple earned 23 points.
Miss USA 2004 SHANDI FINNESSEY and her professional partner BRIAN FORTUNA danced off into the night on this week's "Dancing with the Stars" results show -- the pair received the lowest number of votes for Monday night's performance and were eliminated from the show.
Joining Shandi and Brian in the bottom two on Tuesday night's results show were TV/radio personality LEEZA GIBBONS and her partner TONY DOVOLANI.

Who will tango to the top? The competition for the "Dancing with the Stars" disco-ball trophy heated up Monday night on ABC. After the elimination of PAULINA PORIZKOVA last Wednesday, there are only 10 couples remaining in the competition, and last night they danced the jive or the tango.
Miss USA 2004 SHANDI FINNESSEY and her professional partner BRIAN FORTUNA kicked off the night with the jive. LEN GOODMAN thought it was a great performance. BRUNO TONIOLI agreed, saying, "It was a great bouncy, beautiful babe, but sometimes you are slightly under the beat." CARRIE ANN INABA was more impressed with Shandi's performance this week than last. "What you need to work on is strength," she said. The couple increased their score from last week, earning 21 points out of 30.
Despite her valiant attempt to find her "inner Latina" for this week's mambo, supermodel PAULINA PORIZKOVA and her professional partner ALEC MAZO were the first couple to be eliminated from this season's competition of "Dancing with the Stars."
Miss USA 2004 SHANDI FINNESSEY and partner BRIAN FORTUNA joined Paulina and Alec in the bottom two this week.

More than 20 million fans tuned in to see HEATHER MILLS amaze with her sexy mambo on Monday night's "Dancing with the stars," but it was her daring back walkover that blew the competition away!
ET's JANN CARL was backstage, where she learned that Heather's backflip was technically illegal, because both of her feet left the ground, but the audience and the judges didn't seem to care because they were so wowed by it!

Millions tuned in to Monday night's premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC. And our KEVIN FRAZIER went backstage with the stars for the breaking news you didn't see on TV!
This year, the dancers will perform for two nights before anybody gets sent home -- and this week's premiere cha-cha and foxtrot performances kept the crowd on their toes.
Put on your dancing shoes, because tonight's the night for the premiere of the fourth season of "Dancing with the Stars"! And this year, the dancers will perform for two nights before anybody gets sent home!
The 11 stars competing for the coveted disco ball trophy are undefeated World Boxing Champion LAILA ALI, singer/actor BILLY RAY CYRUS, NBA Hall of Famer CLYDE DREXLER, *NSYNC member JOEY FATONE, Miss USA 2004 SHANDI FINNESSEY, TV/radio personality LEEZA GIBBONS, activist HEATHER MILLS, Olympic speed skating Gold Medalist APOLO ANTON OHNO, supermodel PAULINA PORIZKOVA, "Cheers" star JOHN RATZENBERGER and "90210" alumnus IAN ZIERING.
JOHN RATZENBERGER will put on his dancing shoes as the replacement for "The Sopranos" star VINCENT PASTORE, who was forced to drop out of the competition for health reasons one week into rehearsals.
The series' producers had previously invited Ratzenberger to compete, but a scheduling conflict prevented his acceptance prior to now. Joining at this late date will put the former "Cheers" star a little behind the eight-ball, as he will have two weeks less training time than his fellow competitors.
The new season of "Dancing with the Stars" hasn't even started yet, and they have already had a casualty. "Sopranos" star VINCENT PASTORE, who was scheduled to compete, has withdrawn from the competition after finishing just one week of training.
"When I initially committed to joining 'Dancing with the Stars,' I didn't realize just how physically demanding it would be for me. Unable to put forth my best effort, I felt it appropriate to step aside and give someone else the opportunity," the 60-year-old actor said. "I'd like to thank ABC and the show's producers for inviting me to participate. I wish my partner, EDYTA, and the other dancers the best of luck."
"Desperate Housewives" creator/executive producer MARC CHERRY has described his cast and himself as just a bunch of people out of work who got together to put on a show. Little did they suspect that the dark comedy would turn out to be the monster hit that it has become, so much so that the stars were rewarded with a bonus $250,000 as a result of the high ratings.
ET was on hand when the cast of ABC's No. 1 series held court at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for "An Evening with Desperate Housewives."
This season NBC and executive producer MARK BURNETT landed a knockout punch with DONALD TRUMP and the new reality series, "The Apprentice." Now they have hooked up with Hollywood heavyweight SYLVESTER STALLONE for the upcoming unscripted program, "The Contender," scheduled for 2005. The series, which will make the battles in Donald's boardroom look lightweight, is looking for some real-life "Rockys" -- amateurs who want to become America's next top prizefighter. Says Burnett, "It all comes down to one thing each week: There's a fight, someone wins, someone loses." And Stallone adds, "These men will have to face fear. They'll have to walk [into the ring] alone which takes incredible bravery ... They will solve that particular mystery that I think haunts so many people: How good could I have been?" Potential "Contenders" can log on to nbc.com for application information.
