JOHNNY DEPP is set to go gangster for the upcoming movie 'Public Enemies,' where he will play notorious real-life mobster JOHN DILLINGER, according to Variety. 'Collateral' and 'Ali' director MICHAEL MANN will helm as well as write the flick, set to begin shooting in Chicago this March.

COLIN FARRELL and JAMIE FOXX's 'Miami Vice' knocked 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' out of the top spot this weekend, making $25.2 million at the box office for No. 1. The action-packed re-make of the hit '80's TV show was written and directed by the original show's producer, MICHAEL MANN.

Though they ended their reign atop the box office, the 'Pirates' weren't far behind, taking second with $20.5 million. 20th Century Fox's comedy 'John Tucker Must Die,' starring "Desperate Housewives"' JESSE METCALFE along with ASHANTI, BRITTANY SNOW and SOPHIA BUSH, debuted in third, with $14.1 million.

Even as a baddie, audiences love TOM CRUISE. Tom's new thriller, 'Collateral,' won first place at the box office opening weekend, making off with $24.4 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. In the movie, Tom sheathes his samurai sword for a gun and silencer to play a hit man who gets taken for a ride by JAMIE FOXX.
