When "Nashville Star" premieres on NBC on Monday, June 9, at 9 p.m., the search for the next country recording star will be featuring a special performance by SEAN BENNETT during the military auditions aboard the Iwo Jima, courtesy of the show's new host, BILLY RAY CYRUS. Billy Ray was doing a show for the troops in Alaska the first time he met Sean. The young military man approached him and asked him to listen to a CD he and a buddy had made. This season "Nashville Star" heads to Austin, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Kansas City, Tallahassee, Denver, New Orleans, Portland and aboard the U.S.S. Iwo Jima for a special military casting call, when the search for the next country star moves to NBC with new host BILLY RAY CYRUS.
Grammy-nominee Jewel has been set as the host for the fifth season of "Nashville Star," country music's search for the next great country artist. She will join returning co-host COWBOY TROY when the USA Network series returns on its new night, beginning Thursday, Jan. 11 at 10 p.m.
"I grew up on a ranch in Alaska, and my favorite memories are of sitting around a camp fire with my father and listening to the songs he wrote and sang," Jewel says. "It was pure country music, and it has made me a sincere fan of country music ever since. I am so excited to be part of this show, and for the chance to watch the contestants compete in this uniquely American art form."
