NICOLAS CAGE is set to play a cop with some serious ethical shortcomings in 'Bad Lieutenant.' The film, to be directed by WERNER HERZOG ('Rescue Dawn'), will be an updated remake of the 1992 crime drama starring HARVEY KEITEL, according to Daily Variety.
In the original flick, Keitel's lewd lawman did infinitely more drugging, gambling, shagging and pilfering than policing -- and for those merits, the film received an NC-17 rating.

ROBERT DENNIS FURO JR., the man accused of allegedly breaking into Nicolas Cage's home, has pleaded not guilty to the felony count in Orange County Superior Court, district attorney's spokeswoman FARRAH EMAMI said.
New details are emerging in this morning's alleged burglary of NICOLAS CAGE's home.
The Newport Beach Police Department tells ET that Cage confronted ROBERT DENNIS FURO JR. and that he was escorted out of the home without incident. The situation occurred at 1:27 a.m. and Furo was booked at 2 a.m.
