The Neptunes Present ... Clones is a wild ride through the latest collection of smash hits from production powerhouse THE NEPTUNES! From BUSTA RHYMES to LUDACRIS, this party is definitely bumpin'!
The Neptunes reached their current level of crossover super stardom by first taking over the rap scene, with huge successes including JAY-Z's "I Wanna Love U," and OL DIRTY BASTARD's "Want My Money." In 2001 the duo, comprised of PHARRELL WILLIAMS and CHAD HUGO, crossed over to the pop world, producing tracks for pop titans BRITNEY SPEARS, ("I'm A Slave 4 U") and *NSYNC ("Girlfriend").
Clones kicks off with an ode to the female derriere on Busta Rhymes' "Light Your A** On Fire." Busta takes command of the funky rhythm with his slippery flow, and Pharrell, who apparently appreciates a fair amount of "junk in the trunk" as well, contributes a laid-back hook.
With gritty beats and grimy melodies, Dirty South phenomenon Ludacris denies everything on the bangin' "It Wasn't Us." Keep an eye out for Ludacris' upcoming release Chicken And Beer, in stores October 7. Pharrell himself shows how he does it on the chilled-out "Frontin'," with a little help from N.Y. rhyme-master Jay-Z.
Nobody swings as hard as NELLY, and on "If," he struts his unique, half-sung vocal rhymes and smooth style. Everyone's favorite rizzle nizzle SNOOP DOGG does it old school on "It Blows My Mind," with a classic synthesizer drizzled over a big, boomy beat.
Chad and Pharrell's band N.E.R.D. mix up this rap recipe with the rock flavor of "Loser." And there are two other rockers here: SPYMOB's early '80s style "Half-Steering" and THE HIGH SPEED SCENE's "F**k N' Spend."
One of the WU-TANG CLAN's wildest members, DIRT McGIRT (formerly known as OL' DIRTY BASTARD and BIG BABY JESUS) is raw as ever on "Pop S**t," with his signature slurred delivery and overall craziness completely intact. The album closes with a soulful track from KELIS called "Popular Thug," which features a scathing rap by the always on-point NAS.
