Today marks the end of an era as Monaco's reigning monarch, PRINCE RAINIER III, was put to rest. Dignitaries and heads of state came to pay their respects in the royal palace's 17th-century Palatine Chapel and to express their condolences to Rainier's children, PRINCESS CAROLINE, STEPHANIE, and his son and heir, PRINCE ALBERT II.
"The sad moment we could not bring ourselves to believe in has come," Albert said earlier. "The principality has lost its sovereign prince, my father, who watched over its destiny for 56 years."
