'Titanic' star Billy Zane sails onto the set of ABC's "Samantha Who?" for a guest appearance on tonight's episode opposite Christina Applegate, and we're on the set with the stars for their long-awaited reunion!
"Samantha Who" moves into the "Ugly Betty" timeslot this Thursday, March 26, when it premieres six all-new episodes in the 8:30 p.m. slot behind the new comedy, "In the Motherhood." ET talks to Christina Applegate to get the dish on the new season and her upcoming walk for breast cancer.
"Samantha Who," premiering Monday, Oct. 6 at 9:30 p.m. on ABC, kicks off its new season with a dance competition in which Samantha (Christina Applegate) teams up with her mother Regina (Jean Smart) to go toe-to-toe with Regina's nemesis Paula Drake (Cybill Shepherd).
Christina Applegate stars as "Samantha Who," a bad girl who gets a second chance at life when she is hit by a car and winds up with retrograde amnesia. But that isn't what the actress feels is the key to the series' success. She feels that people -- herself included -- enjoy the series for its journey of self discovery as Sam, who she describes as "awesome," tries to find out who she is.
Sources confirm to ET that 36-year-old "Samantha Who" star Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
A rep for the actress tells ET, "Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time."
ET: After the ratings struggle you experienced on "What About Brian," was it comforting to go on the writers strike-enforced hiatus knowing your show would be back?
BARRY WATSON: You get nine episodes in and everything starts clicking with the writers and the actors. Everybody is starting to feel real comfortable and knows what they need to bring to the show. Then it's: "Go home and, hopefully, we will be back in a month." Four and a half months later ... it was frustrating. You want to keep the momentum going that you had at the end.
When "Samantha Who?" returns tonight at 9:32 p.m. on ABC, Samantha (CHRISTINA APPLEGATE) is forced to move back into the apartment she shared with Todd (BARRY WATSON) when she discovers that she could be evicted for subletting it. But things get more complicated when she discovers that Todd just invited his new girlfriend (KIELE SANCHEZ) to move in with him.
But first, ET went one-on-one with Christina to get the scoop on what direction the show will be taking now that it is back.
CHRISTINA APPLEGATE graces this month's cover of Self magazine, on newsstands March 25, to talk about fashion, exercise and finding inner peace.
"My dream is to have a house on the beach, even just a little shack somewhere so I can wake up, have coffee, look at dolphins, be quiet and breathe the air," she tells the magazine.
ABC today announced return dates for some of TV's hottest series with new episodes, including "Boston Legal," "Brothers & Sisters," "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Samantha Who?" and "Ugly Betty."
The writers strike is almost over, and the networks are gearing up their schedules. Toward that end, ABC announced early pickup for nine of its most popular series today. Getting another season will be "Brothers & Sisters," "Desperate Housewives," "Dirty Sexy Money," "Grey’s Anatomy," "Lost," "Private Practice," "Pushing Daisies," "Samantha Who?" and "Ugly Betty."
